We are happy and pleased to Welcome Hope Spangler to New Visions Books & Gifts as our Tai Chi Chih teacher!

T’ai Chi Chih (pronounced Tie Chee Chuh) is a contemporary Qigong set comprised of 19 movements and 1 held posture.  Based on chi theory and principles which is the root of traditional Chinese and Japanese medical science, especially acupuncture, the primary purpose of T’ai Chi Chih is to circulate and balance the body’s energy (chi).  According to Chinese medicine, chi is the vital life force or life energy flowing through all living things.  It is believed if the chi is not flowing freely and in a balanced way, then dis-ease occurs in the body.  Circulating and balancing this vital life force results in a state of health and well-being from the inside out.

BENEFITS

This dynamic technique has tremendous life-changing potential!  The soft, flowing movements circulate and balance the body’s internal energy flow.  The effect is cumulative and results in optimum health and mental clarity.   The following is a list of potential benefits resulting from regular practice:

  •       Improves circulation in the whole body, especially hands & feet

  •       Improves coordination of upper/lower body and right/left sides

  •       Improves balance & flexibility

  •       Better postural alignment

  •       Promotes relaxation, decreases muscular tensions and relieves stress

  •       Stimulates the metabolism

  •       Stimulates digestion/elimination process

  •       Promotes healing

  •       Brings heightened awareness and creativity

  •       Better concentration, mental clarity, and emotional well-being

  •       Increased energy and endurance

  •       Teaches serenity & attunement

The movements can be performed by almost anyone regardless of age.  It can be adapted for people with conditions such as arthritis, asthma, back pain, cancer, fibromyalgia, multiple sclerosis and other limiting physical conditions.  (If you have a serious health issue, it is always wise to check with your doctor before you begin a T’ai Chi Chih class).

There are numerous spiritual benefits, as well.  Tai Chi Chih is "Meditation in Motion" and contributes to mindfulness, peacefulness in spirit and general overall well-being.

ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR

Hope received her Tai chi Chih accreditation in October 2000 following two years of study and training.  she began teaching Tai Chi Chih classes in January 2001 for Wellspan's Center for Mind Body Health.  She currently teaches community education classes at several local school districts and has taught classes previously at the YWCA of York, Baltimore School of massage (York Campus) and the East Berlin Community Center.  HOpe loves teaching this beautiful form and considers it a privilege and joy to share the far-reaching benefits of Tai Chi Chih with her students.

What Students Are Saying:

Testimonials from some of Hope’s students include lowering of high blood pressure, decreased stress, increased energy, better balance, more calm emotionally and focused.  Some excerpts from student questionnaires:

  • “I came with minimum expectations and depart satisfied that a new dimension of life has opened to me, kind of a spiritual awakening through T’ai Chi Chih. Balance is improved and much more energy available through the day. “

  • “I hoped to feel better physically and mentally, and this class helped so much.  I didn’t realize I would like it this much.  I love the tranquil feeling I sometimes get and find it easier to relax when I am in a stressful situation.”

  • Each week as we learned new movements, I could feel the life force increase its movement through my entire body.  Not only did the movements diminish my pain for the day, but also my energy level increased greatly.  My mornings are now a time I look forward to.  It is such a peaceful, joyful way to celebrate and start a brand new day and brand new way of life for me.”

Tai Chi Chih:  Joy thru Movement, is available at New Visions Books & Gifts for at home practice.  Book, $15.95, DVD, $32.95
